Setting Realistic Fitness Goals: What To Keep In Mind

While losing weight may seem like something that is hard to do, it really isn't if you know what to do.  As long as you stick to a plan and try your best each and every day, there's no reason you won't see your weight and body fat go down.  No matter what your goals are, here are some things that you should keep in mind when setting them:

What do you want to accomplish?

First off, you have to ask yourself what you want to accomplish.  Do you want to lose 10 pounds in 10 days?  Do you want to bring your body fat down to 15%?  No matter what your goals are, it's important to write them down and set them aside.  With any goals, it's always best to write them down so that you can reference them in the future.  It's also a fantastic way to check things off as your proceed with your goal.

Is it realistic?

Picking out a realistic goal is very easy to do if done right.  If you want to lose 10 pounds in 10 days, that's probably going to be rather difficult.  Sure, while it can be done, what you're going to find is that you probably will just overdo it.  If you're unsure of what a realistic goal is, you may want to try to research it online.  So 1 pound in 1 week may be more ideal than 10 pounds in 2 days.  If you're unsure if your goal is realistic, try to ask some of your optimistic friends.

How will you reach this goal ?

Sure, it's great to say that you're going to lose 10 pounds in 10 days, but do you really know how you're going to lose it?  With that being said, it's so important that you have a goal set up to know exactly how you're going to lose that weight.  Whether you're going to eat a certain diet, cut out the candy or lose 500 calories off your diet, like your realistic goals, you will want to know how it can be done in the end.

How about a reward?

Let's say that your ultimate goal is to lose 10 pounds over the month.  Well, let's say that you hit the end of the month and you lost the weight.  Since you worked so hard, aren't you going to reward yourself?  Like a puppy or a kid, most are going to work a lot harder to achieve those goals.  Whether it's a few dollars, a vacation or a night on the town, you  have to choose rewards so that when you get there, you can feel special.

Tips to keep in mind:

The more weight that you start to lose, the harder it's going to be to knock off that additional weight. Be sure to know your threshold.  If you lose too much weight, it could be unhealthy for you. To find your threshold, either you a calculator online or consult with a doctor. When most think fitness, they automatically think about losing weight.  Don't just focus on the weight, but rather, keep your overall cardio in mind as well. In the end, by setting goals, sticking to your plan and not going overboard, there's no reason you shouldn't lose weight and meet the goals you desire.
